Viaje a traves de los prodigios
En esta segunda novela de la trilogía póstuma de Roberto Castillo que inició con El ángel de todas las lenguas, un personaje escritor que «vive» en la rama de un árbol de mango, como Cósimo Piovasco di Rondò, el protagonista de El barón rampante, de Ítalo Calvino,emprende «un viaje extraordinario hacia aquello que la ciudad desconocía de sí misma». Se trata de un viaje de naturaleza onírica que le permite al autor representar a Tegucigalpa, llamada también aquí, según las circunstancias, la Ciudad Antigua, la Ciudad Media, la Ciudad Modernista o la de la Tinta del Olvido, como ese espacio en el que su personaje, el «ilustre habitante de la rama», se ejercita en el arte de la observación y el consecuente juicio sobre lo observado. Mientras tanto, se mezcla con sus habitantes —todos ellos, personajes curiosos con nombres extravagantes— entre saltos por el paisaje urbano, que a veces no corresponde a Tegucigalpa sino a Argentina o a España, pero que, ante todo, es el fascinante paisaje de los sueños y de los prodigios.

Desde la publicación de Fotografía del peñasco en 1969, una breve colección de cuentos que juegan con el lenguaje, con los tiempos y con la relación entre la realidad, la fantasía y el absurdo, Eduardo Bähr se situó, en palabras de Manuel Salinas Paguada, «en la vanguardia de la nueva narrativa hondureña, al romper definitivamente con los esquemas tradicionales del cuento criollista». Dos años después, su segundo libro, El cuento de la guerra, que aborda principalmente los hechos relacionados con el conflicto bélico con El Salvador, lo que Kapuściński llamó «La guerra del fútbol», supuso su consagración «como el mejor intérprete de la sensibilidad literaria hondureña de buena parte de la segunda mitad del siglo XX», según Hernán Antonio Bermúdez. Esa primera etapa de su narrativa está separada por más de treinta años con el inicio de la segunda, en la que aparecen dos libros más, La fiesta umbría y El oculto sexo de la luna, en los que el lenguaje, la estructura y las narraciones complejas ceden el protagonismo a dos elementos esenciales: el erotismo y el sexo. Por primera vez esos cuatro libros se reúnen en un solo volumen con el objeto de mostrar a las nuevas generaciones de lectores por qué Eduardo Bähr es, junto a Marcos Carías, Julio Escoto y Roberto Castillo, uno de los cuatro renovadores de la narrativa hondureña en el siglo XX y uno de los mejores cuentistas que ha tenido nuestra historia literaria nacional.
